Post [1.6.4] Visual Mover and Visual Guide Re-Write
With the recently reported glitches, bugs, and the cluttered, inefficient code we here at OpenWarfare have decided to rewrite the visual mover and visual guide modules with the emphasis on improving efficiency, reducing glitches/errors/bugs, and making it more user-friendly. This will not be implemented in version 1.6.3 as there is not enough time, but should be here for next release.

Here are our tentative ideas for the revamped Visual Mover and Visual Guide:
  • Split the Visual Guide and Visual Mover into two separate modules.
  • Maintain cooperation between the two modules. (ie. mover works with guide and guide works with mover)
  • Two options for moving objects in the Visual Guide: In spectate with a reticle ( like now ) or with the actual object model being moved, and as a spawned player with the players origin as the location.
  • Like before, on map connect no menus pop up and time is set to 1440 minutes.
  • A side-menu that displays information not known to the player (ie. # of spawn_vehicles currently in map, # of current items that exist on map, coordinates, angles, etc )
  • An internal configuration counter to reduce human error and reduce variable count (Visual Mover)
  • An increment/decrement option for the counter to create configuration ready dvars in the Visual Guide.
  • Independence of code between spawn tanks and stock tanks (WaW)
  • Initialize the code in either the _load.gsc or beginning of the _globallogic.gsc

We'll keep you up-to-date on the progress as we go. If you have any suggestions please share them.

It doesn't seem like there's going to be time to redo this one for 1.6.4 if we can keep the release date for this Saturday...

What things are still not working with the Visual mover in 1.6.3 so at least I can try to fix them temporarily before releasing 1.6.4?

The only problems I have with the visual mover is the random part as far as flags and spawns in both WaW and CoD4 and I have only gone as far as SD. I got the problems there first because that was the first gametype I started to customize. That and attempting to create a tank battle in WaW.

If I use just one of the new sets of locations or just the stock locations it works ok. If I use the random setting where it can pick the location either from the stock or any new one I created that's where it starts glitching. It will usually play the first round correctly then it will start mixing the newly created spawns and stock ones with the everything from the bomb, to the sites, to the opponents being invisible but still existing. And sometimes the two sides will exist on different planes, as in say Overgrown with one team playing several feet off the the ground and moving through the walls of the farmhouse and the opponents, even if they can see each other, not be able to shoot each other.

I just don't select the random setting, and just use the new settings, periodically switching from one set of locations to another. And as I said I have not used the mover on any of the flag games as of yet.

As far as the tanks go, it really only works correctly on Roundhouse. The other tank maps Seelow and Downfall it acts erratically displaying some tanks that have been set and not displaying others. I have not tried Outskirts and I am not sure if there are tanks on any of the newest maps as I have not played them stock.

Random setting works fine for me... you have to set _0 and _1 for config size of "1"

That works fine for me, fast_restart'd a bunch of times to ensure they were always at the right place... If I remove the _1 settings then it uses stock (sometimes), if I remove the _0 settings then it uses stock (sometimes).






I think the only thing that needs fixing is CTF - I set CTF flags up with mover, and I have CTF setup so we play 2 halves. On the second half when sides get swapped, the flags didn't swap... they stayed in the same place, so it turned into "RCTF" - where Axis spawn next to Allies flag and grab it right away and have to push up and "capture" the flag by pushing into the enemy spawn - I guess that's how CTFB works?

I am redoing all of our configs for all maps

It is quite a bit of work, my question is, you are re-writing it again is all my stuff going to be obsolete or will i still be able to use the co-ordinates?
